About Us

Sustainable North Grenville is a group of citizens interested in helping to make North Grenville a more sustainable community. Our mission is to foster a resilient community that meets the social, cultural and economic needs of its residents now and for the future, while preserving the environment’s ability to support it.

Three Key Goals

The key goals of this organization are to promote sustainability in the context of three values.

- Support Our Community
  - To strengthen the resilience of our community at large – culturally and socially – by a number of measures, including better communication (“knowing our neighbours”).

- Protect Our Environment
  - To raise awareness of environmental issues in our community, and educate the public about the impact of their actions on the environment and their options to reduce that impact.

- Strengthen Our Economy
  - To support and promote the principles of sustainable community economic development, and to provide ongoing evidence of the increasing significance of sustainability to the economic prosperity of North Grenville.

A Vision for a Sustainable
North Grenville:

Sustainability is bringing the lessons of the past and the needs of the future into the actions of the present. In North Grenville, we envision a positive future in which we can find most of our food, our goods, our services and our culture right here in our own community. A future where people work together for longer term goals than an election or even a life cycle might represent; where people put more emphasis on each other than on material goods; and where we can talk about the environmental and economic cost of what we buy, not just the price. A sustainable North Grenville will not be an accident; it will be a plan, an action and a vision.
